The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra: Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony

A sonic feast: experience stirring, melodic works for wind octet and string orchestra. A meditative chamber work by Arvo Pärt highlights the SPCO winds, evoking an almost trance-like spirit before the strings join for Igor Stravinsky’s lilting, picturesque “Apollon musagète”, Ballet in Two Scenes. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, a cornerstone of orchestral music, builds on the energy of the first half of the program, delivering triumphant bursts and rich harmonies.

During the concert on Sunday, November 3, students from the University of Minnesota’s School of Music will perform side-by-side with the SPCO on the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 at Ted Mann Concert Hall.
