This will be a great night at the movies with three very different surreal short films with overlapping crews playing, concluding with the premiere of Leaf Man and followed by a Q+A with Leaf Man director, Kevin Ackley. There also promises to be a great array of merch for you to peruse and support the filmmakers with!
Here is some more info on each film:
Microwave Spider, 18 min. (Experimental Horror)
Directed by Derek Bauer
Family tensions rise when a father is injured and becomes unable to work.
Trip 27, 27 min. (Hip Hop Visual Album)
Directed by Oscar De Leon
Filmed across the American Southwest, “Trip 27” unfolds over five chapters – each a music video from Fargo musician Huck.’s first full-length LP of the same name – on a psychedelic hitchhiking road trip. Stylistically and narratively sprawling, the 27-minute film weaves through various genres and styles to tell one complete story.
Leaf Man, 20 min.
Directed by Kevin Ackley
Leaf Man is a metaphysical monster movie following a man’s odyssey through a world of organic existential transformations. With momentum from a powerful shoegaze score, this wordless short film uses surreal and strange dual-roled characters to dance through the boundary between ourselves, our surroundings, and each other in the search for a meaningful life.
