Celebrating Black Composers Concert with the SPCO

May 4 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

$10 – $15.

Join members of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for a concert highlighting the work of African American composers from the late 19th century to the present day. In the decades after Emancipation, Black American culture and music flourished alongside the continued fight for full citizenship, including within the world of classical music. Come listen to the artistic achievements of Black Americans who have pushed the bounds of social and artistic inclusion for over a century.

The program will feature guest pianist Timothy Lovelace and works by Florence Price and Robert Nathaniel Dett.

Renowned for its artistic excellence, remarkable versatility of musical styles, and adventurous programming, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world. Now in its 65th season, the SPCO is primarily an unconducted ensemble that performs a broad range of repertoire from Baroque to new music and presents more than 100 concerts in the Twin Cities each year.
