Alive & Kickin (A&K) is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) rock ensemble featuring the talents of members aged 60-99+ years young. Its mission is to “give a voice to seniors through personal stories and popular songs.” The production process is not for the faint of heart. Music rehearsals are 5 hours per week, Sep. – June. Members learn and memorize more than 20 songs and write personal stories which are professionally recorded. Auditions are held annually in July.
A&K exists at the intersection of the performing arts and senior services. Members perform and receive professional vocal and music training, with many boasting the physical and mental health benefits of participation.
The Cast performs small community concerts year-round at senior centers, senior and assisted living facilities, and at corporate, public, and private events.
A free, participatory monthly SingOUT! program is held the 2nd Monday of every month at the Cora McCorvey Center for Health and Wellness in Minneapolis. All are welcome.
