Celtic Junction Arts Center is thrilled to host the Celtic Americana duo Rakish, featuring the talented Maura Shawn Scanlin and Conor Hearn. They’ll be performing music from their new album, Now, O Now, releasing on October 11th.
Maura Shawn, a classically trained fiddler from North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains, seamlessly blends classical, Appalachian, and Celtic styles. With degrees from the New England Conservatory and Yale, and multiple U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship wins, she’s a standout in the folk world.
Conor Hearn, a skilled guitarist from the Irish music scenes of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, complements her perfectly. A Tufts University graduate, he brings a rich blend of storytelling and dynamic composition to the duo’s sound.
A highlight of their new album is the incorporation of two poems by James Joyce, Now, O Now and Lightly Come or Lightly Go, showcasing their ability to blend tradition with innovation. You can grab the new album at the concert!
