This series will take place once a month on Thursdays from 10:30-11:15 AM and will cover the following topics:
January 25, 2024: Prisoner of War Camps in Minnesota
Learn about the little-known history of the system of prisoner of war camps in Minnesota during WWII.
February 15, 2024: How and Why Fort Snelling was Built
We’ll cover the challenges faced by the Army as they built the first major post in the region that would become Minnesota. We’ll also discuss the role that Fort Snelling was destined to play in the economic, political, and social lives of the Native Americans of the region as the US continued its westward expansion.
March 7, 2024: Hearth and Home
We’ll discuss how and where soldiers and their families, officers, and enslaved people lived in the early years of Fort Snelling and hear some of the stories of people who resided at the fort.
Admission includes the Many Voices, Many Stories, One Place exhibit and displays also located in the Visitor Center.
