Why Boys Are More Like to Play Games Than Girls

January 14, 2027 @ 8:00 am - January 22, 2027 @ 5:00 pm

Games are an integral part of the lives of most American teens. More than eight in ten teenagers play video games, and more than three quarters of these players play them with other teens they know online or in person. However, video gaming is more popular among boys than it is for girls.

One reason for this is that boys tend to spend more time playing video games with other people. Boys report being more relaxed than girls when they play video games. Boys also report spending more time play games with friends and family than with strangers.

Another factor contributing to this tendency is the nature of the games themselves. Certain games ask players to record their movements in the game environment. Others, like action games, proceed in real time. And most games show leaderboards. This means that fun games do not have to be complicated.

Save games are another way games can manipulate players’ time. Most save games are tied to single-player games, but there are some multiplayer games, such as Age of Empires II, that allow players to set a save point.

Other types of games, such as computer games, create their own worlds. Computer games create worlds that are much more realistic than traditional ones. That’s because computers can keep pace and uphold the rules of the game.

Computer games are complex and automated. Computer games also create single-player games.
