Slavic Experience, the first festival of its kind in Minnesota, today announced it will hold its inaugural event in Minneapolis this coming August. The entire community is invited to attend and experience Eastern and Central European culture, celebrate the rich heritage and traditions of the region’s countries and raise funds for ongoing relief efforts in Ukraine.
The festival will take place at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on August 20, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 21. Admission and parking will be free, and food, beverages, goods and experiences will be available for purchase.
“Slavic Experience is an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to come together, unite and celebrate all that connects us,” said Aneta Toporowska Lennartson, founder and executive director of Slavic Experience. “We look forward to seeing everyone at Boom Island, and to kicking off a special kind of event that people will seek out and enjoy for years to come.”
Slavic Experience will offer a multitude of fun and cultural experiences for the entire family, including:
o One stage for live folk and polka music
o One stage for modern and popular music
o Many well-known music acts from across Europe and the United States
o Several food trucks representing a variety of cuisines, including Polish, Ukrainian, Bosnian, Serbian, Belarussian and more
o Vendors featuring items and dishes from Kramarczuk’s, the Mediterranean Cruise Café and more
o Painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, fashion designers and other artists will have stands to demonstrate, showcase and sell their creations
• Two beer gardens
o Selections include new brews made specifically for Slavic Experience by Dangerous Man Brewing Company and others
• A donut eating contest
• Opportunities to observe, learn and try nation-specific traditions – dances, foods, fashions, etc.
Slavic Experience also invites attendees to contribute to a free-will offering, with all proceeds going to Razom – the leading American nonprofit organization devoted to building a prosperous Ukraine and providing critical humanitarian aid and recovery for war-torn areas of that country. It’s believed that this will be the largest fundraiser for Ukraine to date in Minnesota.
Current festival sponsors include Global Minnesota and Burnsville Motors. Additional sponsors are welcome; interested organizations should visit https://slavicexperience.com/contact/ and fill out the form.
